  3. We have an annual agricultural fair this month and one of the categories kids can enter is healthy lunches. My boys are both planning on utilizing their Laptop Lunch boxes to create a healthy, trash-free lunch. They haven't quite figured out what they want to put in their lunches yet, but they are certainly thinking of using locally-grown produce as available!

  5. I love my bento! I take it to work, school, and the park! I tell all of my friends about it and where they can get one! I love to pack my bento and go for a walk and picnic in the country! Today was a great day to connect with mother nature!

  6. We use cloth napkins and towels in the kitchen (we're down to about a roll a month, for bloody or really greasy messes), we pack waste-free lunches, we buy highly concentrated cleaners to cut down on water use in the cleaner as well as the packaging, fuel, etc., and I line dry some of our laundry. For picnics and backyard BBQs, we invested in durable, reusable plates and cups so we don't need to buy paper. Oh, and we belong to a CSA for local produce. We could do more, and will as we learn what works for our family, but better it better, right? :)

  7. We use a reusable cloth bag instead of plastic sandwich containers, and supply compost bags to school for lunch waste ;-) We regularly take a trip up and down our street and park armed with garbage bags and wearing gloves to clean up - and have even motivate a few neighbours to join in. I am VERY Very proud of my little recycler!

  8. We cloth diaper, use rags and napkins instead of paper towels and napkins, use eco-friendly and mostly homemade cleaners, compost, garden and try to eat as local as possible, shop thrift stores, line dry clothes, try to keep our thermostat down. We have a little girl starting school in the fall and are now looking for ways to have waste-free lunches now. I am following you on facebook, pinterest and twitter.

  10. We use cloth grocery sacks, cloth towels in the kitchen vs paper towels, line dry clothes when we can, pack lunches for our kids in laptop lunchboxes, try to limit our driving, and get fruits and veggies from more local sources by utilizing an organic fruit and veggie co/op.

  11. We recycle paper, glass, styrofoam, metal, and plastic. Just doing this has reduced the amount of trash we send to the landfill by more than 2/3. It also has made us aware of how much we use, and we tend to choose packaging now that has less waste. We take our lunches in laptop lunchboxes and reusable containers, and we use reusable water bottles, instead of disposable.
We have always chosen gas-efficient cars and it is a contest to see who can get the best gas mileage on a tank of gas. Now that cars have the average gas mileage shown on the dash, we take a picture of our highest mileages to compete. Our daughter has won lately because she bought a hybrid car!
The one thing we are trying to improve on: Buy local. (cuts down on many expenses and wastes along the route)

  14. I have used reusable lunch containers for as long as I can remember. Recently I've added cloth napkins to my routine instead of using paper. The bento lunch box makes it so easy!

We use reusable bags for our shopping and try to not buy things new whenever possible, i.e. I just brought my gram's old ironing board out of storage when the one we were using broke. WIth a new coat of paint its just like new!

  17. We recycle every day as well as compost. Our garbage produced is cut by 2/3 since we started a few years ago! I also did away with buying juice boxes and pre-packaged snacks - now we use our bento box and drink container for school! At home we use reusable containers with lids to store everything! We are now looking into purchasing as much bulk as we can using our containers instead of bags to bring it all home in so we can cut our garbage even more! Also, going 'fresh' as much as possible to again cut packaging. This year we are starting a balcony garden to grow our own veggies.

  27. I put my clothes in the dryer for just a few minutes to allow the heat to relieve the wrinkles, then I hang them on a clothes rack to dry. The furnace is turned off and I just layer my clothes. I especially enjoy being creative with my bento box. Cloth napkins, a thermos, and bamboo cutlery make up my lunch kit. Happy Earth Day and thanks for the contest opportunity...

  28. We use our Laptop Lunch Box for school, cloth napkins and wash rags at home and make sure that our compost bin is always being "fed" so that we can have great soil in our garden. My husband would say that I have a small problem with purchasing re-usable shopping bags but I use them for everything. Happy Earth Day!
